The Dignity for Incarcerated Women Act

November 27, 2017

I'm honored to have contributed over a dozen of my prison nursery images to this short video narrated primarily by Alicia Keys about the Dignity for Incarcerated Women Act. This bill, sponsored by Senators Cory Booker and Elizabeth Warren, takes into account the special needs of incarcerated WOMEN. Women are increasing the ranks of the incarcerated but the prison system was developed with the needs for men, not taking into account the realities of reproduction: childbearing, care taking of children, menstruation.

For more information, I'm including a link to the website promoting the Dignity Act. Click on the Learn More... button below.

I love the people I photograph. I mean, they’re my friends. I’ve never met most of them or I don’t know them at all, yet through my images I live with them.  Bruce Gilden
